Spring Break for College Students in Today’s Economy

Standard

Price Matters

Wouldn’t it be nice to come home from spring break with some money in your wallet instead of none? Has spring break become more of hassle to go because of the economy?   Spring break as we know it, is laying on the beach, getting a tan, ordering drinks, renting out condos,  staying in hotels, buying dinners and much more.  Towards the end of the vacation, you wallet is emptied. In today’s economy, to go to certain “hot spot” spring break vacation places have become too pricey. cheap flights

As a young college student, most of us work.  The money we set aside for our spring break vacation is very limited. Shalia Sanchez, full time college student and full time banker at US bank states her spring break trip and the challenges it faces this time.” Money has been tight, prices are rising and tickets are not easy to find as cheap anymore.” Said Sanchez.  “All of my friends who work full time and don’t go to school have extra cash to spend and are going to Cabo or Mexico, which is something this year I can’t afford.”

Destinations

Because certain spring break destinations may be too pricey, there are some places that may be perfect spring break destinations for college students with a budget.  Certain things to look in mind while choosing your spring break destination is how much will I spend aside from the actual purchase of the trip. Try places where you will know you’ll spend less money. An example may be, Vegas. Las Vegas is a destination where you’re more likely to spend more money because there are more things to do such as gambling. Tropical places such as Mexico may actually be a cheaper place because there are more free natural experiences and activities to do. Cheap_Spring_Break_Destinations.

Paradise Valley Community College student Adnan Poljak explains his previous spring break trips now, and the plans of his upcoming spring break trip. ” Every spring break i always go to Las Vegas. I have found that over the past couple breaks, money has been becoming tighter and tighter.” said Poljak. ” I have found that going to Mexico or some local beach with people has been cheaper and you get more of the ” spring break” feel.” 25-Fun-Things-to-Do-at-the-Beach  Overall, because times are harder in today’s economy money is very tight and some spring break destinations may not be an option. Academy Awards 2012

The Academy Awards have been going on since May 16, 1929. Overtime, it has changed drastically. The Awards’ relevance towards  certain audiences as years pass has become less and less relevant. http://www.cehshuskyexpress.com/arts-entertainment/2011/02/02/are-the-academy-awards-still-relevant-today/.

Since years have passed by and movies, directors and film have increasingly become more technologically advanced and relevance soon drifted to a downward spiral especially for the older generation of people.  For most, the Academy Awards were all about keeping the “original” qualities which it made one of the most popular aired shows on television.http://voices.yahoo.com/academy-awards-changes-rule-number-of-8644623.html  But that changed as technology and times moves forwards, and relevance soon drifts away.

Studies show, for both older and younger audiences, relevance has changed. A survey was given to eight high school students asking them what they thought of about popular movies we have most heard of.  After reading the movies they were asked to leave ones blank for the movies they have never heard of or seen. Results showed that the actually more students left answers blank. http://www.cehshuskyexpress.com/arts-entertainment/2011/02/02/are-the-academy-awards-still-relevant-today/

These statistics shows that the relevance of the Academy Awards is slowly becoming more and more irrelevant as time goes on for the younger and older generations.

How-Too: Prevent Injuries In Gymnastics

Standard

Have you ever broken a bone, or had an injury in the same spot? Has the harsh sport of Gymnastics created your body to become more fragile and jeopardized your career as a gymnast? Is keeping up with your injuries too hard and overwhelming while competition season is still in progress?

Being a gymnast may only look easy as it does on tv, while for gymnasts, falling, landing and crashing does damage to the bones. While falling and breaking bones occurs, this causes injuries.

A close friend and former gymnast team-mate has had her fun with many injuries, which had left her with many physical damages. Serrena Lee has done gymnastics for 15 years now. Being only 18 years old, she started when she was only 3. Lee became a national gymnast and proudly represents  Arizona, winning silver at nationals. She also coaches the gymnasts, helping out her parents who own Flames Gymnastics Academy. Lee led the levels 4′s, 5′s and 6′s to the State Meet with great results.

Lee states that injuries are caused by not only properly treating or taking care of your body. Especially in gymnastics, “your body can’t just be thrown around if you don’t prepare for it to take the impact,” Lee says.

In particular, injuries are caused not only by neglecting your body but by the gymnastics its self. Sometimes in injuries, we can’t do or prevent it from it happening but we can only take better care of it and prevent more injuries from happening  in the future.

Other times, injuries are caused from not stretching. When you leave your body un-streched, it remains stiff and creates bones that will be more likely to rip, tear and break.

Gymnasts who often have injuries, or have had the same injury in the same place, such as lee, need help on preventing injuries. Here are some tips.

  • Stretch before you  start; Always be sure to stretch ALL parts of your body.Make sure you release any tension in areas that may be tight before training.
  • Know you limits; Make sure you know how far you can go, and when to stop. Try to avoid over doing skills.
  • Listen to your physical therapist; For returning gymnasts with injuries, make sure you do EXACTLY what your physical therapist say. At times it may seem like you don’t need to keep doing them, but if you don’t you will re-injure the area.
  • strengthen your ankles, legs and arms; strengthening  those areas and working them out creates less of a chance for them to break or rip.
  • Eat healthy; Taking calcium and vitamins will strengthen your bones. Not eating creates your body to be weakened and increases chances in injuries.

Remember,  jumping into your workout and training without stretching and preparing your body for it may cause injuries. Sticking with these helpful tips will help you prevent injuries and reoccurring injuries as well.
